Overview
Reptiles and amphibians are of the oldest animals on earth, even predating the dinosaur era. They are vertebrates, having an internal skeleton, but unlike mammals and birds cannot self-regulate their body temperatures. Been ‘cold-blooded’ they are often seen sunning themselves to pick up their body temperatures.
Dangers and misunderstanding
Reptiles such as crocodiles and snakes are some of the most feared and misunderstood creatures in Africa. They are responsible for many deaths in Africa every year and it is because of this that the fear exists, although the majority of deaths occur from carelessness.
